Planning was in process since long (Courtesy : Patankar's).
The tour strated on an exasperating note from me : "You know what guys !!! We have missed our train."
It took ten more minutes to convince evryone that we actually had. Cutting the long story short, we managed to get on the next one and surrounded by cute little eight leggers, we somehow reached GOAAAAAHHHHH !!!

What would be the destiny of a tour that started in such a way ??? Doomed ???
Nah...the next five days turned the bad start upside down and we all had a time of our life.

I must say Goa lived up to expectations :)

The fact that only Three of the targeted seven were able to make it, did not douse the spirits as we met in Pune.
The lovely evening was spent at 'Sanskruti', which is about 15 Km from city centre.
The company was good and so went the time. Had a hearty snack and dinner, and indulged in almost everything available at the venue.

... Fabulous February continued

After coming back from Hometown, we headed to Mt. Abu the next very weekend. A well suited train (Aravali express) making the trip possible with just one days leave combined with the weekend. though i felt that a month earlier would have been the best time to visit the place, nevertheless the trip was good and we (Me, Prrety, sourabh and Rashmi) enjoyed a lot. The Jain temples of Delwara being the highlight of the tour. (I regret not bein able to post any pictures of inside the Delwara temples as photography was strictly prohibited). Other highlights being Nakki Lake, Trevors Tank (Wildlife sanctuary), Guru Shikhar and Achalgarh.

And not to forget the self-styled Rabri-Gulabjamun combination that we had in heaps :-)

Fab Feb - I

The fabulous february continues after the Kashid trip. Headed home northwards for two weekends. A new car and about 800 KM's drive during the week covering most part of Punjab. A friends wedding, a few leisure trips, lots of Oranges and of course the most missed cold weather.

The Mumbai mayhem is already into its 41st hour by the time I am writing this. The fact of the matter is that we, our administrative machinery, have ourselves invited these radicals to come and hit Us - 'A Percieved Soft Target'.

Everyone shows National integrity, unity and sovereignity on Day 1, starts blaming others on Day 2, forget on Day 3 and then keep celebrating the anniversaries year on year.

A nation of billion being held hostage by groups sponsored by a nearly bankrupt state.

Kudos !!! to our leadership. Keep being lenient and keep creating opportunities for your security forces to show acts of valour during these VERY MUCH AVOIDABLE situations.

A Nation of such large scale Defense, police and Paramilitary forces !!!
Bloody, stop rearing White Elephants if they can't be used for THE purpose.

Orkut - Connecting People

Despite several attempts via different mediums I was not able to establish contacts with long lost school friends. In our school days ( spent a couple of year each at various KV's accross the country) communication mediums were not that abundant and Social networking sites were nowhere in picture.
This weekend it was a pleasure to recieve a call from a very old school friend whom I reconnected through Orkut. Through him I got contacts of a few others and passed him a few that I was in touch with.
It was wonderful to talk to and see people have settled down (and done well) with their lives. It brought back all the good times memories of cricket inside the class, raising slogans, shutting the chemistry teacher inside the Lab, calling the Physics teacher as 'Jahaaz' and Phy sics lab as 'Airport', crossing school compound wall on a rainy day and going guava hunting et al.

That life had its own charm. Alas, I dont have a single picture to post with this writing but I promise one as soon as my plans to hold a re-union materializes :-)

It had been long that we all were trying to arrange a get together in Pune (un-necessary to mention 'without success'), so finally I decided to salvage some pride by paying a Visit and meeting whoever could make it.

The time was good and Equally good were the Aloo-paratha's and the sumptuous lunch.

A Day at Shepherd's with Nanny's and Granny's

I must admit I woke up rather reluctantly on saturday to the Chimes of my morning alarm. 6 AM is a bit early considering the rather long and tiring friday that has been. The devil said "Keep Sleeping. You dont even know if the philanthropy event is still there or if it has been cancelled."
He was true. I was not sure as i was not able to follow the meetings and communication by the co-ordinators due to rather busy week.
Then came a voice - "Go and check. it only means 3 Hrs of to and fro travel. If at all the event is not there, you can always come back and sleep your heart out."
It was reasonable.
So I went there, reached in time and to all my wishes there were 11 other volunteers too. It was a pleasant time with all elderly ladies at the Shepherd's Home for Widows.
We talked to them, served them, played with them and entertained them by our jokes,songs and other performances.
On my part i told a few jokes and did an Impromptu bhangra.

It was heartening to see a few octogenerian ladies singing and Dancing to the tunes.
We parted at mid day with promises to return.

Been Four - My IT Score

Its four years since I walked into Patni TTC,Mumbai Office with my academic certificates. Aah !!! First job. Financial Independence. "Apne Paair pe khada Hona".

Trying however hard i cant recreate the feeling I had on that day. It was a hard monsoon day and i had to travel 2 hrs to the TTC office from Andheri. was raining hard and I was half drenched by the time I reached.

The training started the very next day for us, the batch of about 30 fresh-out-of-college aspiring techies. Four years and a job switch later Its still those joining mates who are my best friends after i came to Mumbai. Most of them scattered accross the globe though.

Still remember the All-Play-No-Work training days at SDF-7 Basement.

Helping the Aged with HelpAge

Rain could not dampen the spirit when six of us, volunteers from Lehman Brothers joined forces with HelpAge members to facilitate Mobile distribution of Medicine to the aged people.
The area of operation was Francis Wadi (jogeshwari), Off Western Express highway.
At the end of Half a day the Unit catered to 43 registered members and 3 new registration.
It felt good to hear from an retired gentleman how he served his term at one of the schools in the Malad area and how everyone praised him for his work at school when he finally retired from his job.
A good initiative from the NGO's but still a lot needs to be done.

Brought back the memories of our AASRA visit.

A Walk On The Clouds

Yet another touring weekend, though the destination was not too distant.
Considering the time of the year, Lohgarh was one of the best choices for a One-Day-Breakaway. Lohgarh - Wikipedia .

Very unlike the usual Software engineers behaviour, all the seven members to the party were well on time. This set the pace for a beautiful day and a well organized and executed outing. Enjoying "White White Face" and "Falak Tak chal" we were at the Bhaje village (Base village) at about half past nine in the morning. The climate was near perfect for a Monsoon hiking. Within the next 15 minutes we were well on our way to the Fort enjoying the scenic beauty of the mountains, distant view of the Mumbai-Pune expressway and a couple of Waterfalls.

The ascent was good and in a couple of hours we were walking in the foggy clouds at the parapet of the fort.

Had our fill of Cookies & choclates while sitting on the fortifications and enjoying the whizzing winds and then started our retreat.

Had enough time to wash off our fatigue in the monsoon waterfalls.The overwhelming feeling of "Sab Moh Maaya hai" ruled.

The day was Good.

A cozy flight-a not so cozy Delhi airport- The chaos and confusion of Laal Kila and Azad Hind Market - The BEAUTIFUL ramlila ground ( Ram ji would have never agreed to do any sort of Leela there) - The short lived SemiSleeper - Apni Delhi traffic police - battered Taxi with 8 ppl jammed in - Bumpy but memorable taxi ride - A better bus - HEADS & SHOULDER - The Famous Flat - Apna ghar - Desi ghee and Parathas - Two families - A Good sleep - The divine Moments (Borrowed words -Pic(1) below) - Food and More food - Another Good Nights sleep - When the clock stuck 5 at 6:15 pm - Some more divine moments (Pic(2) below) - A Good dinner - The rush Hour - Haryana Gaurav - HEADS & SHOULDER (Once Again) - The famous Flat Returns - HEADS & SHOULDER (Yet Again) - THE journey ends - The sleepy room of deputy - The wait for the evening flight.

The whirlwind visit to home is almost near end. Returning Sweetless this time , first time ever. Lots to Cherish though.

Hakone Hikers

For my last weekend in Tokyo, I had tentative plans in place for wandering off to either Nikko (One of the Shinto Garhs) or Hakone ( A rather recent tourist attraction).
Finally I chose Hakone, owing to more distant it was from Tokyo city and the spectrum of things it had on offer.

In a single day trip I used 5 different modes of transportation ( i.e. Train, Cable Car, Ropeway, cruise and Bus) to complete
the Hakone area circle covering all major attractions.

In the process made a Dutch friend too.Had Guido not been there, I would not have enjoyed the trip as much. He was a good company to talk to (on Astronomy which was his subject as well as the trip).
So the Pentathlon finished with a 'not so exhausted me'.
I will not be getting further time to visit places outside the city as I will be flying back to Mumbai next weekend.
Have plans to visit a few places within the city circle after work hours on coming weekdays. how far it comes good is still to be seen.

Project-Sundae with Tokyo Toppings

I am writing this when I am half way through my 4 weeks official visit to Tokyo. At office the work is as usual though the change in environment has brightened me up a little. Got ample time and opportunity to roam around Tokyo- Heart of the City and a few places around the Metropolis.

Last weekend was dedicated to Katase-Enoshima and Kamakura (Daibutsu Buddha). The city itself is very friendly and so are the people. Courtesy seems to be fitted genetically in DNA's of japanese people. And the language too is very fascinating. (The syllables are so enthusiastic that you would love to hear it for hours even without understanding a word).

Had a long talk with the whole Happy Family (Including the new Member) last evening after they were back to Ambala from Anil's wedding in Ahmedabad. Now its Deputy Maharaj's turn and he is hopeful enough to join the Couple's Club Soon. may the Saltanat get a Deputy Maharani Soon.

The Corporation Aspires to be Global

Yesterday OUR corporation took a turn towards being Global with one of the Partners planning to work abroad. The corporation that I am talking about is still a Pre-Natal brainchild of mine and the Partners are a few select individuals who have promised to join hands when it is born. Be it wedding of a few friends, preparation of wedding for a few others, Stepping in Parenthood of one of the closest friend, Professional development of people close to me or Anything and Everything as a matter of fact. Right now when I write this I am talking to 'Mahamantri' , who is quite close to the centrestage on his elder Bro's wedding in Ahmedabad.
In all this I feel like a Donkey (I feel like writing ASS but I never liked it as a word) stuck amidst heavy traffic on a busy mumbai road. I dont know why but when all of the world is running mad , I am slowing everything down. As If I have a few more years to spend then everyone else.
Last weekend was a bit happening ( by my standards ) as I was in Pune with 'Birbal' without any reasons to be there. This is the beauty: When you have no plans, everything that happens is a takeaway. So the time was good. We took a special pic. (Though whats special will never be mentioned)

An Unexpected Arrival

Sitting in Winchester 10G, hearing Mr. Ramachandran in an Advanced Capital market session, when there was a buzz on my "Rarely Ringing" cellphone. I only hoped it was not a call and it was not. The cell buzzed shortly on the Silent mode and went silent. Came out for a break after about an hour later not remembering that there was an unread Message lying in my inbox.Frequent promotional SMS'es have cast a shadow on my mind which always says "Forget it, it must be one from the service provider for a new so called MONEY SAVER scheme".
It was only later in the day when the trainig session culminated that I had a look at my cell. 2 Unread Messages. As expected one was from the service provider. The other one from Rajesh - The Aamir khan of the Trio (Which trio and Why so is a rather long story).
The exact line in the message read " I am blessed with laxmi ji".
I was stunned. I always made it a point to meet him everytime I visited home. The last time was abt 6 months ago, but was not expecting this news.
Though it was always at the back of my mind that sooner or later the news will be coming. And Was I excited...aaahhhhhh.....
I feel like being there to meet him right now, but practically it will only be after a month or so.

Congrats to the Proud Parents, both being my classmates.

The Phantom Dissapointment

One of those days when nothing too disappointing happens but still at the end of the day you feel like a loser. Difficult to comprehend which moment saw the transition from a fairly upswing mood to a very uncomfortable dullness during the day. But then a few things are above human intelligence.

I am pretty sure Archimedes had a reasonably dissapointing day before the morning when he ran out of his bathtub.

Diwali Celebrations @ OFTG Hamilton

Had some good time today playing 'Secret Laxmi' (desi version of Secret Santa) and a lot of sweets and fruits at the OFTG enclosure in Lehman Hamilton Office. It was great fun with everyone guessing whose gift was brought by whom. and of course it was great fun to open a hell lot of packings to get the hidden treasure, a collection of 204 25p coins as a gift. Quite unique.

The 44 Syndrome

Its only off late that I have started admitting it to people and against my thoughts it has started growing in magnitude after that.
The number 44 seems to have some eternal connection with me. If I recall correctly, it started happening about 2 to 2.5 years back. Increasingly I started being aware of 44's around me.
To give you a Taste of that here are a few in chronological sequence:
1)Sehwag (one of my favourites) started wearing 44
2)I notice 44 minutes on my workstation clock about 4-5 times a day without any conscious effort.
3)Was deputed to Chennai (STD Code :44)
4)Half the times when I finish calls on my cell, the call duration is Some Minutes and 44 Seconds.
5)Many of my data load Jobs tend to finish in 44 minutes.
6)I am increasingly interacting with london Users (ISD Code : 44)
7)U wont believe it My friend list in Orkut has 144 people. Tried adding friends but the figure keeps coming back to 144.

Believe me there are many more occurances.
Off late the occurance of 44 has become scaringly high.

It seems I have been 44'ed Big Time.

Chak Day !!!

Has been a good day all through, missed being an excellent day by a bit of margin. Will take this Margin thing sometime later. Lets have a look at the good things for today.
A visit back to the winchester office. Good to see so many people having lunch in the cafeteria. The reason for a crowded 10th floor cafeteria was not only the firm's growth, the major contributor was the closure of terrace cafeteria (Reasons to follow)
The session "Challenging Assumptions, valuing differences" by CSW associates at Intercontinental- the grand was amazing. The six people who were enacting situations were too good to believe that they were just acting. My personal opinion- Parimal Alok did Best.
Had my LPM review session as well (Confidential, so no more notes on that)
Coming to the reason of Terrace Cafeteria closure, as a part of Diversity anniversary celebrations they had arranged for a screening of "Chak De India" with an interactive session with a few cast members.

Good time with good company after quite some time.

Rendezvous with Nature

Exactly this time last year, we a bunch of people woke up (if you can call that a sleep) on the rocks half way down on the face of a 1200 Ft waterfall in the Sahyadri ranges (Maharashtra,India). It was after long that I felt the closeness to the elements of Nature that we so easily keep ignoring. The two days were a welcome break from the chaos of the Metro city life of Mumbai, that too in a Weekend break between switching Jobs. No pollution (Air or Noise), No traffic and No ringing mobile phones. It felt so far from civilization yet so close to Humanity. The dip in the bottle green water of the reservoir creted by the impact of falling waterfall was my lifes best Bath. One takeaway from living two days with bare essentials is that you start valuing things that you easily keep ignoring. Now when we are planning for a repeat Rappling of the same waterfall next month, theres a lot that we are looking forward to.
May the Mother Nature Bless us with the best on offer.

Lessons from Roadside

The other day while walking by the roadside, I witnessed a man beating the Chain-cover of his old cycle with a stone. So drowned was he in the act that it seems that making the cycle run again was the most valuable to him.I felt a pang and was thinking about something valuable to me.
Why is that what you value is away from you. Or is it the other way round? You value something that is away.

Two Jokers

The two men team was together again on 2nd of October and the venue was R-Mall. If you would have witnessed the serious talk that was going on, never ever would you have guessed that these were the same guys who PRODUCED the IT worlds most famous mail (Arguably).

Good time with a friend, a visit to the Gurudwara, a long walk and a Good gulp of fresh Sugarcane Juice. Cant demand more.
The day was GOOD.

Lights...Camera...Action....

The scene emerges of the Bandra Station. Three carrying their luggage coming out of the station with no set plans. Nowhere to go and no one to look up to in the countrys financial capital.

Cut To.....

Three guys sitting in a restaurant and remembering old days on Drinks and Dinner. Coz tomorrow morning they will be on their different paths and no one knows when they will be able to sit like that again.

If you are thinking it is a plot of a fast moving cinema...mind u it is not.
Life has changed leaps and bounds in the last 4 years, but if we look back it hasnt changed much. The original smile that u get while remembering old moments cant be replicated.

Sandy, If you read this some day, I still remember u bowing your head daily in front of a Public Toilet thinking that it was a 'majaar'. And the genuine smile that I get while remebering this is irreplacable.

Bhai, believe me, you have changed a lot in these years and the change has been for better. But the originalities in you are still intact.

Foresight : A look back

The blog I wrote on 25th turned to a literal reality on 26th...with the exception that the day started on 26th but ended only on the next day. Thought of scribbling this as I am in process of logging off my office terminal to catch up a few hours of sleep if I can still manage it (Sleep is like a wife,if you are 2 hours late she makes you wait 4 more hours).
Gut feeling : 27th will be a beautiful day

Gut Feeling

Hasnt been a very good day. Decided not to watch a single ball of the Indo-Pak grand Finale at Johannesburg, not even on the net. Just avoiding my bad day to spill over the much talented and Gutsy Indian Team. If they come out the winners I will not regret missing the match. The OOOOOHHHHS and YESSSSS's I am hearing around the complex are saying a story right now. All will be out in another half hour. Till then someone keep the Remote out of my Reach.

Needs V/s Wants

Last couple of days have been an eye opener. I have realized how much a cobweb of WANTS have ve woven around us.Whereas what we NEED is really a small proportion of it. Its hurting to shift from Luxuries to absolute necessities, but that is the only way to realize the difference and enjoy the luxuries the next time.

Stick to your needs and enjoy whenever a WANT is granted, but never get used to it.

The Day was Saturday 25th August.
I am in love with this train, and I dont know why. I yet again prefered it over the faster mode. Even though I end up spending 12 hours more every time I chose it over Air travel, I never regretted it.
Living upto its expectations it reached New Delhi Station at 7:15 PM and as always a few Businessmen boarded it for Jalandhar/Amritsar. Among them was this gentleman who I should say had crossed the line separating Middle age and Old age. The gentleman made his space in the compartments think tank in a short span and was soon in conversation with others in our Bay.
Incidentally the topic that arose was the mushrooming of Foreign MNC's in india and there effect on the youth.The wise talk continued as our gentleman served others with his take on the issue. Pointing at me and another young guy in succession he noted "The young ppl like them are getting a starting salary of 15-20K whereas in our time it did not even touch a ton. This easy money is spoiling the youth"
While the talk was on I was thinking about the life I was spending away from home,the late night working just to make sure I could visit home without any issues, the time I will have to burn once I return e.t.c.
I am not aware when the Bay went silent. It was broken by the cold drinks vendor as he approched.
Me and the other youngster asked for a Bottle of Milk each and the Gentleman ordered a 'Mountain Dew'.

Another Wasted Life !!!

By every passing day I am realizing another wasted life. Aspirations to do something worthwhile but no channels to route the efforts.No matter how much I think, ultimately it has to be a single moment of Decision.One thing that I realized in the three years of my career is that :

Here I am watching 'A Fathers Pilgrimage' on NDTV. On the anniversary of Kargil war Capt. Vijayant Thapars father visiting the Three Pimple Top where that young soldier laid down his Life.

That was a life.

And here I am writing code segments for a software which will be obsolete in a few days and some other techie will be writing a better code in a better tecnology to replace it. Ha....

And I think where I could have been.

Hope to get an answer to this situation soon...but its the truth of life...
